The Healing Fields
The Healing Fields is a new body of work composed of naturally dyed, handwoven tapestries that translates the landscape as a healing symbol. The woven work is meant to be a meditation on the act of ‘holding space,’ by exploring the meaningful and synonymous relationship that both cloth and the field have in common: to bring connection, comfort and joy. I draw inspiration from nature using symbolism I collect and discover on my walks throughout Detroit, thru-hiking trips, and source imagery from my home in the Midwest. In addition, each tapestry is also directly sourcing pigment and color from plants, insects, and minerals that are either foraged locally, collected during my travels, or harvested from my garden. I view working with fiber and natural dyes as a way to directly interact with the landscape, whereby the tapestries become a marker of the land, and an artifact of this experience.
