I wanted this tapestry to fee like a charcoal drawing, from the early days of learning how to draw using charcoal pigments from a fire pit and focusing on form / light / and shadow. This is also the first self-portrait I've made in quite some time, and it's a photograph taken of me gathering wildflowers for a project back in 2017.
Handwoven tapestry using wool, cotton, and spun paper weft. Naturally dyed with fresh leaf indigo, oak tannin foraged from Detroit, MI, cochineal insects (gathered from Oaxaca, MX), along with iron and copper minerals.
